Dayton chorus caps 5 years with 'Celebration of Colors'

by Jerry Kenney

Dayton-A performance five years in the making arrives at Dayton's beautiful Victoria Theater on Saturday, June 14, as the Dayton Gay Men's Chorus presents "Kaleidoscope: A Celebration of Colors" at 8:00 p.m.

Growing audiences representing all walks of life have propelled the chorus to greater musical excellence and larger venues since its 2003 founding. The 32-member choral group will mark the culmination of its fifth season with its most colorful concert yet.

"Kaleidoscope: A Celebration of Colors" is part of the Victoria Artist Series and is the chorus's contribution to Dayton's 2008 gay pride celebration. The colors theme represents the diversity of the gay community and the chorus audience.

Song selections include "Over the Rainbow," "Yellow Bird," "Mood Indigo," "Blue Moon," "Purple People Eater," "Rainbow Connection," "The Pink Panther" and many more.

Artistic Director Jason Schuler is proud of the chorus's progress.

"After a very successful concert this spring and a repertoire that pushed us farther than we have gone before musically, this upcoming concert at the Victoria is a very exciting challenge and also a lot of fun," he said.

A sign language interpreter will accompany the chorus. Tickets are $15 from chorus members or at the door. Major credit cards will be accepted. For more information, go to www.daytongaymens chorus.com.

Jerry Kenney is the president of the Dayton Gay Men's Chorus.
